Patong

So it turns out I forgot pretty much everything. The newest thing I have discovered is my contact lens solution. There's another pretty big one. Actually last night I discovered a couple of other things, but being hung over, they aren't popping into mind right now.

Which brings us to hung over. I'm feeling pretty rough right now! So how did I get to this point?

I caught my flight from Bangkok to Phuket last night. It was a budget airline, but the plane was pretty nice. A hell of a lot nicer than anything on Air Canada, that's for sure. Leather seats, friendly staff, everything you could want in an airline. So I was sitting next to this bloke from Cyprus. He's actually half British, and was going in the same direction as me. He has some friend here in Patong, so we decided to catch a taxi together. There is a shuttle bus from the airport to Patong for 120 baht, but the taxi is faster, cleaner, air conditioned, and you're not stopping to drop off and pick up half the population of the island. This is something I learned on my last trip to Thailand. The taxi cost us 550 baht (about $15 American).

So we come out of the airport and just got molested by 'taxi' drivers. These are the guys to avoid in Thailand. They swarm you, and you end up getting some rickety piece of crap. If you can get outside the airport, there is a taxi stand where the proper taxis are, which is where we caught ours. We got this pimped out low-rider of a taxi, with a pounding stereo system in the back, and leather interior. Not what you would expect in a poor country! But actually, this area is relatively prosperous as a result of the tourism.

So Mike, the guy from the plane, and I got into Patong. He had a guest house already lined up, so I got a room in the same place. It's ok - functional at least. Two single beds, a shower, and air conditioning. I don't really need much more when it comes down to it.

Mike rented a motorbike from the guest house, but since I'm non-licensed I didn't. But he gave me a ride into town (about 1km) and dropped me off at the place where the bars are.

This place is dirrrrrrrty. Go go bars everywhere, old white men with young thai chicks. People selling everything and anything. It's a mess of people, booze, sex, and sweat.

... I love it!

So I was wearing my 外人だ shirt, and as I was walking past some dude, he commented on it. Turns out he is a Japanese guy from Germany. He and his buddy were on the way to the club, so I joined in with them, and went clubbing. Danced and danced away! The club was more what I was into - it wasn't as filthy. Cool club actually, it was called Tiger, and there were huge wooden tiger heads sticking out of the walls. It was all jungle themed, pretty cool. SO the three of us met a Japanese chick, Yoko, and some other Japanese dude, Hide, and had a right good time doing shots, dancing and partying till the morning. Even when I leave Japan, I end up with the Japanese!

I left the bar at some time - I really don't know when. Could have maybe been 2am or 5 am, but I have no watch, so I really don't know. Unfortunately, I forgot the pamphlet for the guest house, which was going to be my way to figure out how to get back. Fortunately I'm good with directions, and was half-ass paying attention when Mike was driving me into town. So it's whatever o'clock, and I'm trying to tell the non-English speaking taxi driver which way to go - including the wrong way down one-way streets! But after a bit of effort, we managed to get back here. Lucky!

Which brings me to this morning. Awake. Feeling like a sack-of-assholes, tired, hungover, with crazy sore legs. But in Thailand, which makes it all ok.
